Day 26 (3/18)

Scripture Reading: Luke 19:8
Written by Megan Oshan

But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”

After spending time with Jesus, Zacchaeus realized his lifestyle needed straightening out. Zacchaeus was guilty and he wanted to make things right.  In the Old Testament, God told the people of Israel that if anyone betrays the Lord by doing wrong to another person, they are guilty, “they must confess their sin and make full restitution for what they have done, adding an additional 20 percent and returning it to the person who was wronged” (Numbers 5:6-7).

Zacchaeus demonstrated inner transformation by outward action. He confessed with his heart then offered to give his half his wealth to the poor and pay back four times the amount to anyone he may have cheated. God tells us to not only confess our sins but to change our behavior.

Challenge: What is your life are you guilty of?  Have you asked for forgiveness? Do you need to change your behavior or take action to make things right with someone?

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for                . Give me wisdom and guide me to make things right with [person’s name].
