Day 25 (3/17)

Scripture Reading: Luke 19:7
Written by Megan Oshan

All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”

Earlier, we learned Zacchaeus was a wealthy chief tax collector. Given that he was a “chief,” Zacchaeus abused his power by collecting money fraudulently. He wronged the people in the community, and they knew this as they referred to him as “a notorious sinner.”

In society today, certain groups of people are considered “sinners” because of political views, their immoral behavior or their lifestyle. Christians should not give in to social pressure and avoid these groups of people. Jesus knew Zacchaeus was a sinner and still chose to stay in his home. 1 Timothy 1:15 says, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” We are all sinners and how great is it to know that, “God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we are still sinners” (Romans 5:8).

Challenge: Who in your life has wronged you? Is there a group of people that you view as “sinners” or that have abused their power?  Invite a “sinner” to your home and share the love of Christ.

Prayer: Lord, help me to forgive those who may have wronged me and be like Christ.
