Day 27 (3/19)

Scripture Reading: Luke 19:9-10
Written by Megan Oshan

Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

The people who heard Jesus say this must have been surprised as they wouldn’t have liked to acknowledge that the corrupt tax collector was a fellow son of Abraham (Jewish) and they wouldn’t have wanted to admit the sons of Abraham could be lost. Salvation doesn’t come from heritage; faith is more than just genealogy. In the same way, Christians aren’t just “Christian” because their parents were. Faith is an individual choice we must make by ourselves and Jesus came to save all people regardless of the background.

In Matthew 9:12 after Jesus was questioned about eating with sinners, Jesus response was “Healthy people don’t need a doctor – sick people do. Now go and learn the meaning of Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices. For I have come to call not only to those who think they are righteous but those who know they are sinners’.

Challenge: Have you made a personal choice to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior regardless of your upbringing?

Prayer: Lord, I pray for faith like Zacchaeus and welcome you into my life.
